Eurostar / Young People’s Trust on the Environment Competition Terms and Conditions

  1. By entering this competition (the “Competition”), the entrants are deemed to have read, understood and accepted these terms and conditions and agreed to be bound by them.
  2. This Competition is open to residents of the UK aged 11 to 18. Employees of Eurostar International Limited (“Eurostar”), their families, employees of Eurostar’s affiliated companies and agents, and anyone associated with this Competition are not eligible to enter.
  3. Entrants aged under 18 at the time of entering this Competition must have their parent or guardian’s consent to enter the Competition. Their parent or guardian must tick the relevant box on the Entry Form (defined at paragraph 5 below) to indicate that they agree with these terms and conditions.
  4. The Competition shall run from 8.00am on 25 June 2014 until 11.59pm on 4 November 2014 (inclusive) (the “Competition Period”).
  5. Entry to this Competition is free and automatic upon sending the link to the video entry and the completed competition entry form (including 100 written words and correct name, age, address, parental consent and contact details) (the “Entry Form”) to competitions@eurostar.com with the subject heading “YPTE entry”. As part of the competition Entry Form entrants must write a 100 word passage explaining why they think they should be chosen to win this Competition.
  6. Entrants should also submit a link to a short video (approximately 2 to 3 minutes long) setting out their views on the environment and sustainable travel and imagining what they would say if they got the chance to share these views with Members of the European Parliament (“MEPs”) by winning this Competition (the “Video”).
  7. It is the responsibility of the entrant and their parent or guardian as appropriate to correctly upload the Video to You Tube and to set their preferred privacy settings.
  8. This Competition is limited to one entry per person. If any multiple entries are received then only the first Entry Form will be considered.
  9. Three winners will be selected. Each of the winners shall win a prize that consists of:
    1. A return day trip for each winner (and their parent or guardian where appropriate in accordance with paragraph 9) from London to Brussels on the Eurostar to meet with MEPs in the European Parliament in Brussels. This date of this trip is to be confirmed (the “Brussels Trip”).
    2. Vouchers for the winner’s school to be redeemed in Currys or PC World for a value of £250 (the “Vouchers”). Eurostar accepts no responsibility for items purchased using these vouchers.     3. Four return Eurostar tickets in standard class from London St Pancras or Ashford International to Paris Gare du Nord. These will be valid for one year from the date of issue of the prize certificate. Eurostar travel is subject to availability. Some dates are not available for travel including, but not limited to, all Public/Bank Holidays and associated weekends and Valentine’s Day.
      All passengers must travel together on both the outbound and return journeys. Travel is not transferable or exchangeable nor can any form of cash or credit alternative be offered. Eurostar International Ltd Conditions of Carriage apply to all travel which may be obtained via the website: www.eurostar.com Expenses on board are not included.

      (The Brussels Trip, the Vouchers and the Tickets together being the “Prize”).
  10. Any winner who will be under 18 on the day of the Brussels Trip must be accompanied by their parent or guardian on the Brussels Trip, the parent or guardian’s travel is included in the Prize.
  11. Any winner who will be under 18 on the day of departure for the Paris trip must be accompanied by their parent or guardian on the trip.
  12. The winners of this Competition will be selected by an independent judging panel consisting of representatives from the Young People’s Trust for the Environment and Eurostar. The winners will be selected based on the following criteria: 1. strength of view on the topic 2. ability to communicate view on topic via the Video submitted 3. view put forward in writing describing why the entrant thinks they should be chosen. The selection of the winners will take place on or before 17 November 2014.
  13. The winners of this Competition (and their parent or guardian where appropriate) will be contacted by 19 November 2014 by email or telephone using the details set out in the competition entry form.
  14. It is the responsibility of the winners (and their parent or guardian where appropriate) to ensure that they have provided Eurostar with valid contact details. The winners (and their parent or guardian where appropriate) have three days after being contacted to respond to Eurostar, and if return contact is not made within that time period, the Prize will be forfeited without exception. In these circumstances, Eurostar will select another winner in accordance with the selection criteria set out in paragraph 11 above.
  15. The day trip to Brussels will take place in 2014. Eurostar will communicate the travel arrangements to the winners (and their parent or guardian where appropriate) at least 10 days before departure.
  16. Eurostar’s decision is final on any situation including any not covered in these terms and conditions. Please note that Eurostar will not enter into any correspondence concerning any decisions made.
  17. No alterations, exchanges or refunds of the Prize or elements of the Prize won in this Competition will be permitted. The Prize is not transferable, cannot be resold and there is no cash alternative.
  18. Each winner and their parent or guardian must comply with all relevant customs, security and immigration requirements, including appropriate passport and visa requirements. Eurostar will not be responsible for any passenger’s failure to comply with these requirements. The winners are strongly advised to take out adequate levels of travel insurance.
  19. Each winner and their parent or guardian must check in at least 30 minutes before departure and may not be allowed to board the train if they do not do so. Eurostar will not be liable for any passenger’s failure to comply with these requirements.
  20. The Eurostar tickets that form part of the Brussels Trip and Paris trip cannot be used in conjunction with any other offer. Previous bookings made prior to and, for dates during, the Competition Period, cannot be exchanged or refunded for any booking acquired in accordance with this Competition.
  21. Entrants accept that Eurostar has the right (without any additional payment or permission) to use their name, age, town, county or country of residence or likeness for the purposes of announcing the winners and for related promotional purposes. Upon receipt of the entries (consisting of the written passage and the video), all entries will become the property of Eurostar and will not be returned to entrants. Entrants hereby assign to Eurostar all worldwide copyright and like rights in their entries and waive all moral rights. Entrants agree that Eurostar has the right to use the winners’ videos for promotional purposes, including uploading them to www.eurostar.com or other related websites. Eurostar shall only make such Additional Use of the Videos with explicit prior written consent from the winners or their parent or guardian as appropriate.
  22. The name of the winners will be sent to anyone who writes to Eurostar at the address set out in paragraph 29 below within three months of the closing date of the Competition Period, enclosing a stamped self addressed envelope.
  23. Eurostar shall not be responsible for any indirect, special or consequential damages or losses suffered by the winners of this Competition or a third party.
  24. Eurostar reserves the right to refuse to honour any entry if they consider there has been an abuse of this Competition or a breach of these terms and conditions.
  25. Eurostar shall not be liable for any failure to fulfil this Competition where such failure is caused by any supervening circumstances amounting to force majeure. Such circumstances shall include, but shall not be limited to, severe weather conditions, ash clouds, fire, flood, war, earthquakes, riots, industrial dispute, acts of God, supervening legislation or events which, without the fault of either party, render performance impossible or incapable of satisfactory execution.
  26. Eurostar may at any time and for any reason elect to change or withdraw this Competition and shall not be liable for any costs, claims, damages or loss occasioned by any such election or by failure, however caused, to fulfil the terms of this Competition.
  27. The Eurostar conditions of carriage apply to all Eurostar travel and are available on www.eurostar.com or by writing to the address set out in paragraph 29 below.
  28. These terms and conditions shall be governed by English Law and the exclusive jurisdiction of the English Courts shall apply.
  29. Eurostar of Times House, Bravingtons Walk, London, N1 9AW, is the promoter of this Competition.
